The gender of my child

It is a big issue for some parents about the gender for their child, especially the first child. Some prefer boy for their first child. Personally, I don't bother about the gender, as long as the baby is cute and healthy. I have a boy for my first child and my wife is pregnant for our second child, my son is so happy when we told him that little brother or sister will come soon. Recently, my sister in-law gave birth to a twin. Sure, my sister in-law is happy as she has both gender (boy and girl ).

Why the gender become an issue? In the past, in Pre- Islam days, the people in Arab states don't expect to have baby girl in their family. Uncivilised world, they will bury the baby girl alive. They believed that having a baby girl was a curse; the witch told them so and they believed it! Thank God, this belief was condemned by Islam. Baby girls are treated equally as the baby boys. They might think that girls won't be able protect the family and work for decent income. Those days, girls were symbol of immoral activities like entertainers, dancers and prostitutes. It is good to learn from the past.

For Chinese, they prefer boy. My Chinese friend told me they need to keep their surname. In a marriage, the couple's children would use the father's surname. I made a generalization out of this issue, parents need a hero like Superman, Ultraman, Alexander the Great, and Merlin ( my friend like to watch the movie). The parents presented too much abour male hero, esin reading or movies is there any reading materials or movies about female heroes.

So, parents need to be rationale in their decision on gender of their child. Boy or girl, both are gift from God. Appreciate the gift. Remember, look after your children and they would look after you when you were old. My sister said that girls tend to care for parents than boys. This is not a fact but true, think about it!
